Palmeira

Palmeira is a village in the western part of the island of Sal, an island in Cape Verde, in the central Atlantic Ocean.

There really isn't much in Palmeira itself apart from a couple of small grocery stores.

Head to Santa Maria, which is the heart of the action. Here you will find a lovely white sand beach and clear blue waters.

Windsurfing, scuba diving, kite surfing and surfing are all on offer as well as occasional submarine trips and deep sea fishing.

Take a diving tour to see 3 natural wonders including the Blue Eye, a deep pool.

Souvenirs and gifts can be found at the market in Santa Maria. Popular buys include wood carvings, jewellery, African masks, paintings and batiks.

Grilled lobster, fresh tuna and octopus are all local specialities.

The port is around 4km from the centre of Palmeira. Only small ships may dock in the port, larger vessels are required to anchor and tender passengers ashore.
